Your new role…

Reporting directly to a Senior Trading Analyst, the successful student will quickly become an integral and trusted member of this team, providing operational and technical support to business activities on the trading floor. With a positive attitude and willingness to learn, the student will be given every opportunity to acquire new skills and gain valuable working knowledge of forecasting and data analysis.

Main Duties:

The successful student will be responsible for providing business support to the Market Forecasting & Analysis Team. This will include the following duties:

  • Understanding the I-SEM trading arrangements that went live in Oct 18. Including the introduction of additional market trading timeframes- forward market, day ahead market, intraday market and balancing market
  • Create short term power price forecasts to allow the trading department to optimise power positions across multiple markets
  • Complete long term forward power price & volume forecasts for relevant business areas
  • Improve forecasting methodologies & systems through extensive model backcasting to improve model results
  • Analyse and report electricity market trading data from various trading timeframes, informing key trends to senior team members in a clear and precise manner
  • Utilising data-warehouse capabilities to research, develop and implement trading ideas to allow the company to achieve strategic goals
  • Involvement in annual student promotion activities

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Studying towards an honours degree in a discipline with a high level of numerical, financial or IT content and have completed year 2 by July 2020.
  • Module results to date must have a combined average in excess of 60%. (All modules and results must be listed on your CV).
  • IT literate with a sound working knowledge of MS Office and advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrable evidence of investigative/research work using a range of sources.

Desirable Criteria

  • A keen interest in data analytics: including data modelling, predictive analytics and advanced visualisation. Experience or knowledge of using programming languages ( e.g. SQL, Matlab, R, Python) or data visualisation tools (e.g. Power Bi, QlikSense).
