Ballylongford Wind Farm: Turbine foundations complete

Energia Group has reached a major construction milestone on its Ballylongford Wind Farm in County Kerry with the completion of all 6 turbine foundations.

Energia Group has reached a major construction milestone on its Ballylongford Wind Farm in County Kerry with the completion of all 6 turbine foundations.

Once operational, the 25.2 MW wind farm will generate enough renewable electricity to meet the annual needs of around 14,500 homes and save nearly 48,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year – equivalent to taking more than 28,000 average cars off the road.

Commenting on the progress of the construction team, Energia Renewables Project Manager, Ger O’Leary, said: “We are delighted to get to this stage of the project which brings the start of renewable energy generation on site one step closer. Looking ahead to the overnight delivery of the turbines, we will be working with specialist teams to minimise any disruption to local residents and road users. We are now offering a text-messaging service to keep residents updated.

“Ballylongford Wind Farm will help Ireland achieve its 80% renewable electricity target by 2030, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and increasing security of energy supply.”

The next phase of construction will be the delivery of the turbines themselves, with components scheduled to arrive on site for installation in early summer. Some temporary road modification works are being undertaken at certain points along the route to accommodate the length of the blades.

Anyone interested in registering for the Ballylongford Wind Farm text-messaging service should email their name, address and mobile number to clo@energia.ie and include BALLYLONGFORD in the subject line. Every text includes an option to unsubscribe. Energia will also be posting regular construction updates on the wind farm project page www.energiagroup.com/renewables.
