Energia Group achieves B- as a first-time responder to the CDP Climate Change programme
Energia Group features in the Climate Change Report for the first time in 2022
Environmental charity CDP Ireland recently launched its Climate Change Report for 2022, which this year features Energia Group – the first time the company has reported to the CDP Climate Change Programme.
While an important milestone for the Group, this year’s CDP report showed an overall growing number of Irish companies that are disclosing their environmental performance. On the list, 384 companies are either headquartered or operate in Ireland.
The report analysed companies in Ireland on several metrics which can be viewed here .
In 2021, Energia Group published its first Responsible Business Report which included corporate disclosures across environment, social and governance performance. This evolved in 2022 to include reporting and targets set by the company. Building on this, the Group carried out extensive organisation-wide carbon emissions analysis and committed to reduce the carbon intensity of electricity generation by 50% by 2030, when compared to 2019/20 levels. The achievement of this medium-term target will place the Group on a pathway to achieve Net Zero by 2040 and is also aligned to its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Annabel FitzGerald, ESG & Corporate Communications Manager with Energia group said, “By aligning our responsible business activities to the broader global effort to deliver the SDGs, we are demonstrating our commitment to the communities we serve, employees and to climate action. This year, Energia Group achieved a B- rating in our first CDP response in 2022 which sets us on ambitious pathway to progress climate action targets. We are committed to both the CDP network and the ongoing broader decarbonisation of the energy system across the island of Ireland.”
Brian O’Kennedy, Executive Director of CDP Ireland, said, “We were delighted to have Energia Group disclose its Climate Change strategy to CDP in 2022. For a first-time responder, a B- score is indeed a strong performance. It is critically important for all of Ireland’s leading utility providers to take significant steps to help decarbonise the energy system and to do this in a transparent way through CDP disclosure. This not only helps Energia Group to communicate its climate commitments, but this decarbonisation commitment helps Energia’s many customers in turn with their climate transition plans”.
