Earth Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the role we play in supporting communities and the environment.

Energia Group is committed to supporting local communities in climate action through its Greener Possibilities Fund, administered by Community Foundation Ireland. Four organisations are supported by this Fund and all align with our own commitment to Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Communities) and 13 (Climate Action). These include FoodCloud in ROI, Grow NI, Keep NI Beautiful in NI and Global Action Plan. Funding supports projects that relate to the climate crisis, climate resilience, or biodiversity protection across the island of Ireland. 

Global Action Plan has used Greener Possibilities funding to develop their GLAS community garden in Blanchardstown. Recently, Energia Group led a team of volunteers to do some spring cleaning at the garden helping with composting, cleaning, creating pollinator habitats, painting and mending benches, and getting the garden ready for growing fresh fruit and vegetables during the upcoming summer months. 

The GLAS garden is not just about growing food, but about restoring biodiversity, providing inclusive green spaces, and bringing people together from the community across age, income and abilities. With support from Greener Possibilities, Global Action Plan Ireland (GAP) has made real progress at the community garden in Blanchardstown, attracting over 4,800 visitors and hosting 42 local community groups for a host of different activities.

Earth Day is not only a moment of reflection but a catalyst for continued action. Through programmes like Greener Possibilities and our Greener Possibilities Fund, we empower individuals, schools, and communities to take practical environmental action when it comes to climate change and environmental protection ensuring lasting change is built through collaboration and shared responsibility.
