Our Renewables team scooped the coveted Community Award at the inaugural Irish Renewable Energy Awards in Dublin last week. This award recognises the dedication and commitment of the Renewables Operations team to community outreach and engagement on our 16 wind farms across the island of Ireland.
The Operations team’s outreach activities include their popular school wind farm visits and collaboration with climate education programmes, local authorities and community groups. However, two special initiatives on Energia Group’s Meenadreen Wind Farm in south Donegal really impressed the judges has also made the shortlist for the Community Award - thanks to a cottage renovation project and a repurposed blade installation.
The Energia Renewables Operations team worked with BladeBridge, a Cork-based start-up specialising in repurposing wind turbine blades. Together, the Operations and Design teams transformed a decommissioned turbine blade into a shelter and seating area on a popular walking trail, which passes through the wind farm. Accepting the community on behalf of his team, Head of Energia Renewables Operations Brian Mullen said: “Winning this award is great recognition for our Site Managers and, of course, our dedicated community engagement team. It highlights the important work we do on and around our wind farms to deliver meaningful and long-lasting benefit for local communities. Energia Group is committed to driving the energy transition with our focus on sustainability, innovation and responsible business practices.”

We are proud to announce that Energia Group has received a Distinction Award at the 34th National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) / Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) Awards. The ceremonies were held on 10th October in Killarney and 7th November in Belfast. This achievement marks our third consecutive year of recognition at these prestigious awards, and we are delighted to have progressed from Highly Commended to Distinction.
This success reflects the dedication, continuous improvement, and strong safety leadership demonstrated by all our teams across every department and location. The award is based on a comprehensive assessment of our Safety Management System, including documentation and records throughout 2024. It is a testament to the outstanding work of our HSE teams and Management Committee and reinforces that health and safety is an integral part of our business. As long-standing members of the NISG, this year’s theme – “Health and Safety for All” – aligns perfectly with our core values. Our membership continues to play a vital role in benchmarking our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) performance year after year.
