Energia Group emphasizes its continued commitment to sustainability to mark SDG Week 2023
As this year’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) week draws near, Energia Group highlights its sustainability priorities
22 September 2023: Energia Group, a leading renewable energy company in Ireland is proud to participate in UN SDG Week taking place from 23 September until 1 of October. The week brings together organisations, governments, communities and individuals from around the world to raise awareness and drive action towards achieving the UN SDGs, creating a more sustainable future. With a strong commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices Energia Group is taking concrete steps to align its business practices with the UN SDGs to create a more sustainable future for all.
Energia Group has identified six priority SDGs for the company. These are:
- SDG 5 Gender Equality;
- SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy;
- SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth;
- SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure;
- SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities;
- SDG 13 Climate Action.
Energia Group has made a commitment to reduce by 50% the carbon intensity of its electricity generation by 2030. In the same period, it aims to increase onshore wind and solar generation by a factor of three, as well as progressing other renewable energy opportunities in areas such as offshore wind, green hydrogen production and battery storage solutions. In addition, through its energy supply businesses (Power NI and Energia) Energia Group is empowering customers to be part of the just transition through innovative energy efficiency products and services including microgeneration. The company is committed to being a key player in the decarbonization of the energy system contributing to SDG 13 Climate action, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 7 affordable and Clean Energy.
Energia Group is an organisation that values diversity and inclusion among its staff, placing a significant emphasis on being a positive place to work where people feel they can be themselves contributing to SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Last year the Group introduced two new women’s health policies, Pregnancy Loss and Fertility Treatment, and a managers guidance document to support women through the Menopause forming part of the company’s broader strategy of supporting all employees through every life stage and fostering a culture of inclusion. The company also partnered with Riley to provide free period care products to employees across all their offices. The partnership between the two organisations is part of Energia Group’s commitment to provide a more inclusive working environment for women and its alignment to the UN SDG 5 Gender Equality.
As a community focused organisation, the company has a long-standing record of working in collaboration with community groups having invested almost €4 million in communities through its wind farm community benefit funds. Last year saw the launch of the Greener Possibilities fund that supported 11 charitable and community projects across the island of Ireland with a connection to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 Climate Action.
