Energia Group recognised for recent recertification of the Business Working Responsibly Mark
This is the second time the Group has received this prestigious accolade.
Energia Group, a leading integrated energy utility in Ireland, is proud to announce its recertification for the Business Working Responsibly Mark, recognised at Business in the Community Ireland’s annual CEO forum.
First awarded in 2019, the Group’s recent recertification is a testament to the company’s continued commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.
Established in 2010 by Business in the Community Ireland, the Business Working Responsibly Mark (‘the Mark’) is Ireland’s Economic, Environmental, Social and Governance (EESG) standard. Independently verified by the National Standards Authority of Ireland, it is the standard for sustainability that goes beyond legal compliance by fostering a culture of responsible business through continuous improvement, ongoing accountability, and leadership.
To be recognised, companies must demonstrate best-in-class commitment to sustainability in the areas most relevant to their activities. For Energia Group, this meant undergoing a comprehensive two-day audit conducted by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) that evaluated the Group’s management system in a range of key topics such as environmental management, community engagement, governance, diversity and inclusion, and value chain management.
Annabel FitzGerald, ESG & Corporate Communications Manager with Energia Group and Chairperson of the Business Working Responsibly Association said, "Securing the Business Working Responsibly Mark for the second time demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices, as well as our dedication to our customers, colleagues, and the communities we are part of. It also highlights our dedication to playing a leading role in shaping a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for Ireland."
Speaking at the CEO forum, Annabel emphasised that every job in an organisation is, in essence, an ESG role: “We all have an important contribution to make to sustainability, no matter our role within the organisation. The Mark has helped us in our preparations for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive in practical ways, such as identifying the key people in the business across HR, procurement, engineering, finance and so on to support our ESG efforts.”
Tomas Sercovich, CEO of Business in the Community Ireland, commended Energia Group's achievement: “We are delighted to award Energia Group with this mark for a second time. The Mark is a true reflection of the work that the company carries out across the country in their continued commitment to sustainability. We have seen first hand their sustainability journey and we know how imperative and important sustainability is to Energia Group and its operations. We are pleased to once again acknowledge the progress the Group is making from an ESG perspective”.
Energia Group is committed to playing a leading role in the decarbonisation of the energy system on the island of Ireland and has set a near-term target to reduce the carbon intensity of its electricity generation by 50% by 2030. In addition, the Group recently achieved a B score as a second-time responder to the CDP, climate disclosure programme, and was awarded ESG Performer of the Year (over 1,000 employees) at the 2024 Green Awards.
