Energia Group shortlisted for Renewable Energy Awards
Energia Group has been shortlisted in 3 categories for the prestigious Irish Renewable Energy Awards
Energia Group has been shortlisted in 3 categories for the prestigious Irish Renewable Energy Awards, highlighting the Group’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and community outreach across its 16 operational wind farms on the island of Ireland.
The categories are:
- Sustainability
- Community
- Best Project
The Irish Renewable Energy Awards shine a light on progress in Ireland’s renewable energy sector, celebrating companies’ and individuals’ success in helping to drive the energy transition.
The repurposed blade installation at Energia’s Meenadreen Wind Farm in south Donegal has been recognised as a contender for the Sustainability Award. The Energia Renewables Operations team worked with BladeBridge, a Cork-based start-up specialising in repurposing wind turbine blades. Together, the Operations and design teams have transformed a decommissioned turbine blade into a shelter and seating area on a popular walking trail, which passes through the wind farm.
This is the first time BladeBridge has worked on a wind farm amenity project, where the blade will return to its original home to continue its working life in a new form. The project underlines Energia Group’s commitment to the UN Sustainability Development Goals by promoting environmental stewardship and the circular economy.
The Operations team has also made the shortlist for the Community Award - thanks to a cottage renovation project on the Meenadreen site and the team’s community outreach and popular school wind farm visits.
Finally, Drumlins Park Wind Farm in County Monaghan is in the running for the Best Project Award. The wind farm, which entered commercial operation in 2024, is Energia Group’s 16th operational site on the island of Ireland and was designed to minimise environmental impact, while maximising operational efficiency through innovative engineering.
Welcoming the shortlist announcement, Managing Director of Energia Renewables Peter Baillie said: “The Irish Renewable Energy Awards are an important platform to showcase our expertise and ability to deliver strategic infrastructure like Drumlins Park Wind Farm and the Lislea 110 kV Substation in County Monaghan. These nominations recognise Energia Group’s leading role in powering the energy transition through our commitment to sustainability, innovation and responsible business practices. We are also proud to be sponsoring the Diversity and Inclusion Award.”
The Irish Renewable Energy Awards are organised by Wind Energy Ireland and Solar Ireland. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Dublin on 13 November.
