Energia Group’s Greener Possibilities Fund extended for another year
Supporting communities across the island of Ireland in their efforts to address climate action is a key priority for Energia Group.
March 16th, 2026
The Greener Possibilities Fund, now in its fourth year, was established to support projects related to the climate crisis, climate resilience, biodiversity protection, or those which are community focused.
Aligned to UN SDG 11 Sustainable Communities and SDG 13 Climate Action, Greener Possibilities has been successfully supporting four charities; Global Action Plan Ireland and FoodCloud in ROI and Grow NI and Keep NI Beautiful in NI.
As part of our ongoing commitments to support and enhance communities and promote positive climate action, we’re delighted to announce that our Greener Possibilities Fund will continue to support these excellent charities for another year, in 2026.
To date, approximately 58,000 people have already benefited from the charities’ activities supported by Greener Possibilities funding and in 2026 we expect to reach even more people as our partnership with Keep NI Beautiful transitions to their Green Flags programme. Greener Possibilities will continue to be administered by Community Foundation Ireland, an independent philanthropic body that provides external governance and oversight.
With support from Greener Possibilities, Global Action Plan Ireland (GAP) has made real progress at the community garden in Blanchardstown, attracting over 4,800 visitors and hosting 42 local community groups for a host of different activities. Following the announcement of the extension to the Fund, Global Action Plan (GAP) said “We are thrilled to continue working with Energia Group, whose support over the past few years has been tremendous. The Greener Possibilities Fund has enabled our GLAS community gardens to develop even further, and blossom into the welcoming places for social inclusion and environmental education, offering spaces where everyone is welcome and can learn how to live more sustainably”.

Another recipient of funding from Greener Possibilities is FoodCloud. With hubs in Dublin, Cork and Galway, their mission is to transform surplus food into opportunities to reduce food wastage while helping vulnerable people at the same time. So far, with the help of Greener Possibilities, they have provided 2,000 tonnes of surplus food to various community groups and have extended their support to 664 charities, offering them help to make sure they have the resources to make a difference. Aoibheann O’Brien, Director of Innovation and Development at FoodCloud said “We’re hugely thankful to Energia Group for supporting FoodCloud through the Greener Possibilities Fund over the past number of years. We are privileged to be among the charity partners they support. Long-term partnerships allow us to strengthen our operations, rescue more surplus food, and to cut the environmental impact of food waste; delivering real benefits for communities and the climate”.

Grow NI, who offers opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in growing food and connecting with their community, have said “Our partnership with Energia Group Greener Possibilities has been nothing short of transformational for Gairdin an Phobail and our local communities. Starting from a derelict and unloved space a number of years ago we have been able to build a vibrant connected community and biodiverse space; and to connect and support the development of other green spaces in the area. It has been such a great journey for us, and a welcome experience for the more than 1,000 people through the gates!”.

Eric Randall, CEO of Keep NI Beautiful – a charity dedicated to environment education - says, "We are delighted to be supported by the Greener Possibilities Fund, which has helped us continue developing our Green Flag Programme. The support from this fund has enabled us to promote this programme and ensure best practice in our parks is shared across Northern Ireland. When it comes to promoting environmental protection, getting the basics right, such as looking after our parks, is of paramount importance. We all benefit enormously from spending time in open spaces, and this in turn encourages us to play a part in protecting our environment."

Our support for these charities goes beyond the Greener Possibilities Fund including over 1700 hours of volunteering with our Greener Possibilities partners in 2025. This work spanned from helping at the community garden, carrot gleaning, sorting through food and distributing meals, and getting involved in beach cleans along the Northern Ireland coast to name a few. Volunteering also gives our employees a chance to get involved and to better understand the day-to-day work whilst building stronger relationships between Energia Group and our four Greener Possibilities Fund charities.
