This Engineers Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the breadth of engineering talent across our organisation—talent that powers our business today and drives the transition to a more sustainable tomorrow. Across the Group, engineers with different backgrounds, skill sets and career paths contribute to our success in unique ways.

At Huntstown Power Station, Ann Moloney applies her PhD in Chemistry to a wide range of operational and environmental responsibilities, from wastewater management to emissions‑reduction projects.

She enjoys the hands‑on nature of her work and the variety it brings, noting that she uses “project management, analytical thinking, communication, and resilience on a daily basis.” For Ann, discovering what you enjoy and excel at is key to a rewarding career, and she values working with colleagues “across a wide variety of disciplines who come together to find solutions.”

In Customer Solutions, Cristiane Reis brings a different path into engineering. Originally from Brazil, she began as a web developer before moving into data‑driven projects and upskilling in Python and the Azure stack. Now a data engineer, she builds and maintains the infrastructure that supports ETL processes across multiple data sources, using tools such as ADF, Databricks and SQL Server.

Cristiane believes curiosity and continuous learning are essential, saying “there is always something new and exciting to try out, making engineering a career full of opportunity and growth”.

Working on the future of digital infrastructure, Cian Deery brings yet another perspective. After studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the National University of Ireland Galway, he completed a master’s degree before joining a graduate programme in another utility, where he worked on the design and construction of high‑voltage substations.

Cian joined Energia Renewables in 2022 and now serves as Grid Connection Manager for the Mooretown 220kV Substation supporting the Huntstown Data Centre. His role draws on a wide range of skills — from people and project management to critical thinking and communication. His advice to future engineers is simple: focus on what you enjoy and what feels rewarding. As he puts it, “Don’t be pigeon‑holed by your degree. Most engineers will say 90% of what they learned was through experience rather than in the classroom.”

Across our three businesses — Customer Solutions, Renewables and Flexible Generation — our engineers bring together creativity, technical expertise and collaborative problem‑solving. Their work underpins our ability to deliver resilient, forward‑thinking solutions that support decarbonisation pathways for our customers and the communities we serve.

As the energy landscape continues to transform, the future will demand even more diverse engineering skills to facilitate expanding renewable energy capacity, enhancing system flexibility, ensuring security of supply and developing digital solutions that empower customers to make more sustainable choices.

At Energia Group, we are proud of the rich engineering culture that helps us meet these challenges — and even prouder of the people behind it.
