Energia Group Leads Renewables Push With Onshore Wind Commitment
Across the island of Ireland Energia Group is investing in onshore wind generation – and we continue to expand our wind portfolio in support of a greener tomorrow.
Both the Republic of Ireland Government and the Northern Ireland Assembly have a target for 40% of electricity consumption in their respective territories to come from renewable sources by 2020.
At Energia Group, we are proud to be a major player in ensuring those commitments will be met. Across the island of Ireland we are investing in onshore wind generation – and we continue to expand our wind portfolio in support of a greener tomorrow.
Last year we supplied a huge total of 1,281 megawatts of green electricity, generated from the Group’s own wind farms and other third party renewable generators throughout Ireland. Energia Group wholly owns a number of wind farm assets across the RoI and Northern Ireland, and in February 2019 we completed the acquisition of a 21MW wind farm development project at Coolberrin in County Cavan.
The Group is continuing to develop this recently acquired Coolberrin wind farm project, and is also assessing a significant number of other opportunities to acquire and develop further wind farm developments in the future. It’s all part of helping meet and exceed that 40% target.
The only by-product of these renewable generation sources? That comes in the form of Community Benefit Schemes which provide funding across social and charitable enterprises in their local areas. Our wind farms co-exist alongside local communities and have become a focal point for educational initiatives on the advantages of creating a renewable and sustainable energy source for us all.
