Project
Huntstown Battery Storage Facility
We are developing plans for an energy storage project in the Huntstown area in Coldwinters, North Dublin.

Huntstown Battery Storage Facility
Find out more information about this project below.
Project overview
The proposed 75 MW battery storage facility will allow energy from renewable sources, such as solar farms, to be stored during times of low consumer demand. This energy can later be released onto the electricity grid, when required.
Battery storage will play a vital role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels, increasing security of supply, lowering electricity costs by maximising our use of renewable energy and providing flexible capacity to meet growing demand on the grid.

Site selection
The Huntstown BESS project is designed to utilise existing electricity infrastructure by connecting to a locally available transmission network.

Why is this project important?
Energy storage will play an important role in the transition to a greener and more secure energy future. Grid-scale battery energy storage systems, or BESS, help balance the intermittent supply of renewable energy sources with fluctuating consumer demand.
By storing surplus renewable electricity generated during periods of low electricity demand, batteries provide a dependable backup energy source to relieve pressure on the grid during peak hours, while increasing grid reliability. Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels can also help drive down electricity prices.

What does a battery storage project look like?
The proposed storage facility will be made up of a series of containers, or enclosures, each housing rechargeable battery units.
These purpose-built containers can be painted and positioned to minimise visual impact. Existing natural screening and field boundaries will be enhanced by additional planting.

What are the next steps?
The Huntstown BESS project was granted planning consent by Fingal County Council in March 2025.
We will also be uploading information on this project web page.
