October 2024: All seven turbines installed
The Crossmore construction team achieved another major milestone in October with the successful installation of all seven wind turbines. Commissioning, or testing, is the next phase. Specialist commissioning engineers and technicians check, test and adjust the equipment
September 2024: Sunrise over Crossmore
This early morning drone shot shows progress across the wind farm site.
Six out of seven towers have now been installed.
September 2024: First turbines installed
Construction of Crossmore Wind Farm reached another major milestone in September with the successful installation of the first turbines, including tower, nacelle and blades.
September 2024: Transformer delivered
The 44-tonne unit was transported via specialist hauliers from Dublin Port to the wind farm 38 kV substation in Crossmore, travelling at a reduced speed for safety along the 270-kilometer journey, which lasted five hours.
The transformer will enable the transmission of renewable energy from the 25.2 MW wind farm.
August 2024: First blades arriving
The 57-metre-long blades are being manoeuvred around ‘the Rocky Road’ roundabout on the Ennis bypass as they travel to site in Crossmore, near Lissycasey.
August 2024: First turbine deliveries:
The first turbine components to arrive on site were the 57-metre-long blades. They were transported from the Port of Galway, along the M18 to Ennis before travelling via the N68 through Lissycasey and onto the L6180 to the site entrance. Specialist hauliers, Mar-Train Heavy Haulage, are delivering all seven tower and blade sections. Other large deliveries will include the turbine nacelles – the covers which house the generators and gearboxes. In all, that’s a total of 77 components.
April 2024: Turbine bases complete
Concrete deliveries begin early in the morning and pour throughout the day until the turbine foundations have been completed.
February 2024: Turbine foundations
Each turbine foundation requires excavation, following the fixing of steel reinforcement and the pouring of concrete.
