Commitment to Community

We want to enrich the communities in which we operate bringing a genuine social value to our activities. We are committed to the local communities in which we operate and whom we serve and have a long-standing record of working in collaboration with community groups to enhance local areas and to benefit local people.

Our activities support SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through a range of initiatives. We promote the achievement of cleaner and more sustainable cities (Target 11.3 and 11.6), sustainable transport solutions (Target 11.2) and ensure the protection of nature in all we do (Target 11.4). Through our work in communities across the island, we also promote SDG 13: Climate Action through efforts to improve education and awareness of climate change and the action required to mitigate and adapt to minimise its adverse impacts (Target 13.3).

Greener Possibilities Fund

The Energia Group Greener Possibilities Fund, administered by The Community Foundation for Ireland, is a new fund that aims to support projects with a connection to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13, “Climate Action.”

Community Benefit Funds

Via a number of community agreements and collaborations we operate several Community Benefit Funds around wind farm sites on the island. These schemes take the community needs into consideration and are monitored and adjusted where needs are seen to have changed. We have invested over €4 million in local communities through our wind farm Community Benefit Funds in the last 6 years. Find out more >
